Conn Smith Park

Tidy Towns

We took part in this year’s Schools' Art Project in association with Cavan Tidy Towns. The aim of the project was to enable us to realise the importance of respecting our local environment whilst also raising our awareness of Tidy Towns and the importance of recycling and environmental management.

We wanted to explore the flora and fauna in the centre of Cavan town. Kitted out in our wellies we headed to Conn Smith Park where we met the ever so knowledgeable Heather. This hands-on workshop led us over the wetlands and drylands of the park. We used many of our senses-listening to the birds, sighting the frogspawn and smelling the  iron bacteria in the soil. We drew pictures of many of the trees, grasses, cones and tussock sedge in the park.
